Rusty Moldy Vessel raku

The winged vessel series began as The Boat Series, and morphed into winged vessels:

Boat Series 1

This is a wonderful glaze I have experimented with over the years in both oxidation and raku. In oxidation it is completely different than raku, and at cone 05 very different than cone at 6 ( smooths down at cone 6, but is dry at lower temps). It is an alkaline glaze. In Oxidation this glaze is cobalt blue, turquoise, and purple, depending on thickness. In raku reduced with live oak leaves I get his rusty moldy look.

  Pots and stuff
This is me and mine....tiny tea pot and cups made at Whidbey Island Beach, ...
Plus my lamps, and bowls ...

Stone ware lamp, I made the shade as well, of vintage fabric.

Begging bowls

This bowl is about 5" across, the handle is a rock glued on top.. a fun piece.

  Tiles

This piece is fired in a primitive fire. It is coated with Terra sig, and shows flashes of the reds, The goard is also sig , but a plain sig, not red. Both are burnished. (polished)

This tile is many small tiles supported on small plexiglass panels for easy shipping. Tiles are portable, designed to be installed, but when you enter a show with them, your options are limited, frame or use some other suitable way of hanging them. In shows I believe tiles should always be judged on the tile alone, not a frame or because of a frame. This tile (tiles, sample) is In The Monarch Tile Corporate collection.

Some years ago when I first moved to the PNW, a personal ad appeared in the Seattle art paper. Everyone thought it was Bill Gates. I knew he was building a huge home on Mercer Island, I wanted my work in his home, these tiles.

I wrote this person hoping for an installation, didn't send a photo of me, but a sample ( worth 1,000.00 ) of this work. Turned out it wasn't king county as the ad said, it was Snohomish, and some fella named Skip, He promised to return my work, but alas never did.

I met him, and was so disappointed I wasn't going to have an opportunity to have work in Gate's home.
It was an interesting experience all around since this ad was the talk of Seattle.

BTW, I would still love to have my art work in your home MR. Bill Gates, and Mrs. Melinda!!

Another of the tiles, one of these is in porcelain slip, another in terra cotta clay, I prefer the porcelain, more color variation.

This sculpted teapot is, of course non functional, and has elements of the old irons from the back of the pot, Each angle
(front, back, side is a different design. At one time I had made tiles in positive and negative relief of this teapot, for a wall of relief. I love playing in positive and negative. Sculpted and textured, I used a slip, and blotted on a broinze glaze over the texture, I have done this in black as well.

  A Very Very UnTeaPot

This 'unteapot' was in the very first Feats Of Clay in Ca. And juried by Ron Nagle.
It won a merit prize.
A good example of what the rusty moldy glaze looks like when fired to cone 05 or 06 in oxidation. It is very dry.
The construction is an invention of mine that I call call soft slab construction, written about by Vince Piltaka in one of his books. (he doesn't, however, mention me) lol
This Piece is in The The Ferro Collection

  Studio

A few photos of my studio......wheel, work table..my sink is outside the studio,, brr cold in winter, Kiln is in garage.

Porcelain ware,,,,bowls, and cups, and Birdie

Porcelain bowls cone 6, decorated with underglazes.

A Place to make pottery. For art. For fun. For joy. For peace.

Name: Sherry
Location: Mukilteo, Washington, United States

This vine has been like the sun, rising in the east, setting in the west. From Pennsylvania; I now live in Washington where the beauty is of a foggy and glorius nature, a temperate rain forest where trees grow faster than any place on earth.
